Persistance

Well I persisted with my Dragonfly quest and took about 50 shots this morning. Wasn't going to post any but these 2 are sort of OK

But, I am still not happy with the DOF. I would like to get the whole dragonfly sharp and in focus.

These were taken with the Tamron 70-300 Macro with 1 x 36MM tube, no flash and I bumped the ISO up to 800 to try and improve shutter speed and DOF with a smaller aperture.

PP involved running through Neatimage twice to remove the noise

Not bad, but you cheat and shoot them while they have landed

DoF will always be tricky - if you shoot them side on, then the body will be in focus but not the wings.

I think a front 1/4 shot would work - would get enough of the head and wings in focus to complement the whole image.

Yes, I remember that terrific shot you got of one in flight. Give me time

I spent 45 minutes submerged in reeds yesterday with only the D70s high and dry and still couldn't get one in flight..
