Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Picked up a cheap rechargeable spotlight today so had to try it out tonight and went for a walk around some local scrub. Turned out the spotty gives a lovely warm light when it starts to run low... so I took advantage of it when this Tawny Frogmouth happened across my path.

Glad you like it K. :D Regarding the torch: I'm not sure how long it'll last; after all, it was from Super "Cheap"!!

Thanks Rel.

I still get a tad jumpy when I'm out there by myself - I'm sure I can hear blades of grass rubbing together!

Ha, he does look a bit like the proverbial stunned mullet, but I like the surrounding stark black, looks eerie...

Thanks guys. The lighting was just as it looked at the time - the spotlight was really powering down and only had enough left in it to give a feeble illumination of the bird but nothing else. Sort of set its own DOF.

It really contrasts with some later ones I took with flash once the spotlight had given up.
These were taken at 1/250, f11.

Focus was a bit off on this one..

I don't mind this one; it's sharper than the one above but I don't think it's as interesting as the first one in this thread. I much prefer the subject looking straight at the camera.
