This was done using filters and a layer mask......... well it is a bit slow today.......

Freaky bp - just a suggestion, if you made the background mosaic a blue it would lift the spiky thingy

I kept waiting for the image to load as it looked like a progressive JPEG or it was still loading... it never did because it was!
