R/C Chopper

Gidday,

From my balcony on Sunday afternoon, I could hear the sound of a model aeroplane coming from the local park only 50m from my unit. I grabbed my camera and headed down, to my surprise I found 2 guys flying this radio controlled helicopter.

Found it quite hard to track as the pilot was having lots of fun shooting 20m into the air from a low hover off the ground.

All taken with the 75-300 IS with CPL.

I like the first one with the person controlling in the background. Gives a good idea about what it is.

Always wanted one of those then got my D70..lol.. Hey love pics, 1, 5 & 6. I guess those R/C Choppers can move and getting an infocus shot would have been hard.

#1 is a beauty wocka. Love the composition and well organised OOF backgorund and managed to keep a straight horizon

Great shots Wocka - these toys ain't cheap but they look like LOADS of fun .

I tried the simulator for a helicopter in the shop that these guys were from only a few months ago, all I can say is I'm glad they have a simulator as he said it was very much like the real thing...that being the case I would have written off the cost of the RC chopper in about 5 seconds flat

Great work! the 350D is hard to control the AF on these tiny + fast subjects but you've done well at last.

I want a real chopper not R/C but can't afford it atm.

Top shots but i wouldn't want to get too close as these things are dangerous and only needs a glitch or radio to go offline and well i wouldn't to be near it. I had been flying model planes for years and yeh these suckers are hard to fly.

I'm really surprised by your comments. I like the shots (but I like anything radio control) but didn't think they were that special to anyone.

Yes tracking the chopper was quite hard, the pilot would fly along the park and then stop as though someone grabbed the rotor and the fuselarge (is that what it's called on a chopper?) would start spinning.

He also loved just hovering and shooting 20-30m into the air in an instant, glad I wasn't on board as I would have thrown up.

VK4CP – These guys do know the rules, but as usual don’t regard them too highly. The pilot is the owner of the local hobby shop just up the road, although I didn’t realise that until they were finished and came over to me and asked if they could see the pictures. I said I’d drop in a CD with them once processed.

BBJ – I though I was almost going to have a few crash pictures, the pilot took off from the ground and shot forward at a great pace, I swear the rotor was 2 inches from the grass, almost a whipper snipper.

Birddog, if you want a serious boat, i wouldnt be looking at the razerlines.. they are a nice rig.. but if you want something thats unbreakable.. and unsinkable 99% then i suggest you check out the Stabicraft boats http://www.stabicraft.com and they are dead solid in the water at rest.. you wont find a more stable craft

Hi Wocka,
1st shot is great, really good composition with the chopper sharp and the pilot blurred in the background. My only suggestion would be to clone the puppy (half puppy) out of the image as I find it distracting from the main subject.

Id stay away from Quintrex, seeing as i do alot of offshore fishing... you wouldnt be even able to pay me to fish in a quintrex... Quintrex boats are factory made with a robotic welder.. the welds are shocking.. ive heard of plenty of reports about people taking quintrex boats for a run with a dealer.. test drive.. and having the keel crack and split..

Your safer with a handbuilt plate style boat like the Razerline or Stabicraft then the pressed hull alloy boats like Quintrex and you'll get a better ride too..

Great shots Wocka - I have always had a hankering for a RC aircraft, might do it one day. That chopper looks truly fantastic.

You have really captured the action, extremely well done and fun to look at.
