A photo i need some help on?

Ive got this photo (link included) that I really like (background and faces) but the problem was this was one of the VERY first photos on the D70 I used and the faces are very dark
Is there anyway post processing can fix this to make it a printable shot??
Ideas?

Have you tried adjusting brightness, contrast, gamma?
I accidently had my gamma adjusted high for gaming and I looked at the picture and it appeared fine, even if the background did appear a tad washed out. You could probably do some blending so that the background exposure remains the same as I feel they don't need adjusting, and it's only yourself and your girlfriend/wife that needs fixing.

Do a search on this forum for the contrast mask technique. If you are using Photoshop CS use image/adjust/shadow-highlight tool.

All I did was create a new layer, adjusted levels to lighten the image, used the eraser on the background and flattened the image.

Kris - Excellent photo, was this on a tripod and self timer???
I am sure your (girlfriend / wife?) would love a blown up copy for christmas.
