I was palying around with the Nikkor 60mm Micro today and this was one of the results. Simple but I really like it.

Nice work, as you said simple yet affective! to be picky I'd like to see another 10 pixels on the bottom side.

a black and white that is not B&W :lol:

very simple and effective but might look better showing all the shadow.
great depth of field showing the fabric detail as well.

John, thanks for taking the time to post the other crop, I do prefer this little extra so fill out the shadow detail a little more fully.Thanks!

Top of the ball is a bit too hot and may benefit from being toned down a bit.
