Went fishing last night in some extremely shocking conditions with huge smells and all the stuff that makes the purkolater kick into high gear if you suffer from Sea Sickness.. managed to take a sunset photo in the arvo, the sunset was really spooky.. and then this morning before the sun had even popped up, was just starting to colour the sky so grabbed this sunrise shot

The first shot is a cracker Tim - huge smells One assumes huge swells

The first is a great image Tim. I'd spend just a little time taking care of detail though straighten horizon and clone out the rigging in the bottom right hand corner of the image. Beautiful shot though

Thanks, glad you like the first one, its my pick too... the conditions werent fun.. made it difficult to get a straight horizon.. and yes that is swells.. not smells.. but we did stink a bit after the trip...

Following your say & advice, I had a test drive on the Stabi-craft 609HT with a Johnson 175HP 2 stroke last Friday & Saturday at Nelson Bay, 50miles/ hr, it handles very well in the open.

It took about 7 minutes from the Little Beach/ Nelson Bay to Broughton Island, other boat took 15 min - 1/2 hour.

Love it and it's well constructed + built.

Yep! going with them for sure, but still want to look at the 659HT or 759HT, same as waiting for the fresh brand new model of Envirude E-TEC outboard. They mentioned the new Envirude E-TEC is super quiet.

The down side: it will take 8-10 weeks for delivery from New Zealand

wOw zeek them are big fish! do you hav 2 use xtra thick lion to catch em ?

the stabi's are great boats and handle everything


the etecs are a great motor.. but they are still unproven technology... my mate has one on his stabicraft 529 frontier... good motor.. but im still wary of it, for proven unstoppable grunt, then id always go for a Yamaha 4stroke... cant beat them.. and they use bugger all fuel!!

I'll do more research on the Envirude, how do you think about the Mercury Optimax?
What engine does that boat has (Suzuki?), the ones you went out 65kms off shore?

Mercurys, Evinrudes, Johnsons = Black Anchors (Unsafe and Dangerous, I wont trust them)

Yamaha and Suzuki (leading the pack)

The boat i went in last night had a 200hp Suzuki.. and it absolutely powers along.. the boat is a 6.5m Haines Patriot..

I'd deffinantly look at the Suzukis.. but not the Mercurys..

What's the weight of each one? it look to me, they're huge.
Glad to have someone like you on this board so we can learn something from this new hobby. BTW, the Stabi-craft 659HT has been ordered, a down payment will be handed over this Friday, and pending on the outboard atm.

P.S: whenever you make a trip down here, pls. let me know. I'll need your hand.

First Snapper - 8.5kg

Pearl Perch - 4.3kg

2nd Snapper - 7.9kg

3rd Snapper - 7.4kg

These fish were only caught in the last few months

You cant loose with the 659HT.. they are a weapon, fit some outriggers and get out near the shelf and troll lures for Tuna and Wahoo

Glad to be on the boards, i mainly got into photography because i love taking fishing photos.. but because my models (mates) are so bloody ugly i gotta look elsewhere for other good things to photograph.. so thats why you dont see alot of fish photos from me.. ill eventually get around to it tho

Nice fish Zeeke - the bottom fishing up north is so much better than syd although 65km is a bloody long way to travel.

Port stephens has some great fishing Thanh - we fish up there quite a bit, live baiting the gibber and the light in close for marlin or 75 fathoms and the newcastle canyons when the fish are out wide. Heaps of good bottom fishing also for snapper etc as well as some great kingy fishing, northen bluefin tuna and cobia in season.....it really is a great spot.

A little off topic but the stabis are a reasonable boat, might be worth checking out ocean cylinder boats as well for the same style of hull from a different manufacturer -and are made locally. Heap of good traditional mono hulls in that size and price range also....might be worth shopping around. Also probably worth your while to look further into 4stroke vs 2stroke depending on how you plan to use the boat. We've cut our fuel consumption by half for a days trolling out wide since switching to 4stroke.

I would of mentioned the OC's except for the price... the Snapper photos above are in a mates 4.4m Tiller Ocean Cylinder.. it has a 50hp 4stroke and we fish the 65kms offshore in that most of the time..


4.4m OC Hull only with no extras is around $14k.. not exactly a cheap option.. id say the stabi crafts are a better built boat tho because of the hull design and layout
