One of our first outings for the year was held in the Myall Lakes area north of Newcastle this weekend just gone. Here is a thematically linked group of kinda abstract shots taken on the day. Next post will be some more traditional pics from me To see a large version, click a pic.

I love the first shot. Looks like classic Edward Weston.

peter the textures are really great! The B/W effect on the first two really brings out these features for the images capture. My favourite is the sand texture.

Peter - the textured woods shots are great, but my pick is the sand - looks like something from a motivational poster .. but I'm not sure what the caption would be......

Love the textures, and the way the ripples on the sand actually lead your eye to the centre line, but don't disappear into it.

Matt - another reference I had to look up (Edward Weston). Liked this concept:

Some of Weston's classic work ... were nudes of his second wife, Charis Weston, taken as she repeatedly threw her naked body down sand dunes to creat different poses.

Kevin - not sure what the line in the sand was. It just started then petered out again. Here's an alternate and un PP'd wide shot of the same thing. I'm guessing it might be something as simple as water below the sand.

Love the textures theme , for me #1 and #3 are standouts and offer me as the view a lot more then the other two...

(I'd personally change the viewing order so its #3 #1 #2 #4) but that's just my opinion

#1 - I find this shot to be the least interesting of this series. Too much symmetry without a focal point of interest.

#2 - this shot is fascinating in the juxta positioning of the sleepers - it could do with a tad of curve work to take the highlight areas down and the shadow up

#3 - This shot has much more to offer than #1 - firstly, the colour is superb and the grooving caused by the worms adds an interest.

#4 - With this shot I actually prefer the non-pp’d shot as the line goes to infinity whereas in #4 itself you are left hanging.

great theme you have done on the TG/HN trip. No 3 is my favourite one of them, very nice colours. The first two don't really grab me as much and I like how you have PP the last one.

Craig - interesting comments - my faves in order are #3 and #1

Chris - thank for the honesty. On #4 in particular I had not thought of it from that perspective. The uncropped of this has a little more at the top, but nothing like the second pic. I'll have a play with the landscape version and give it the same treatment to see how it goes.

Steve - that was my thinking when I took the shot, but ultimately I decided it wasn't strong enough to rate well hence it's here. Plus I have another better pic for the comp already

André - thanks - #3 is my fave too as already said. The PP in the last one really brings out the image IMHO
