A sunset and a bummer....

Hi all,
I went out to the river a couple of nights ago to a very cool sunset which turned into a lightning storm. Unfortunately when I started to take the lightning shots I put the camera on infinity focus and then accidentally turned the focus ring instead of the zoom ring, meaning that most of my shots were out of focus!
Anyway, I would appreciate any thoughts on composition as I'm not sure about the foreground part.
Been trying out BigV's border actions too.
Bummer.... all OOF.

Lee - the first picture is absolutely delightful - colour graduations that draws the eye into the beauty of nature - a superb shot.
Lightning - ah well!

doesn't look out of focus to me, so i think your right
the spooky sunset is wonderful, looks almost like an aurora or nuclear waste in mist form floating around the swamp, very cool.

The colours in the first shot are fantastic. The rainsquall is an excellent way of drawing you into the picture. Are they all Pelicans on the water? There must be hundreds of them. Obviously they knew the weather was turning bad!

Same as the others, the first shot is beautiful. Love the lighting on the rain from the clouds. Thats the thing with lighting like that. You just have to be lucky enough to be there at the right time, and take the pic.

As with the others. The first I love, the second is excellent also.
But the 3rd its great cause its a better lightning shot than I have.

Thanks guys. I was in the pool with the kids and saw the sunset in the distance and didn't go at first. After a few minutes I thought that it was too cool to miss and jumped out, left the kids there for Pete to deal with and drove like a maniac to the lock near our place.
Mal - yes, they are all pelicans. They have a sandbar right there that they sit on although it is a lot more underwater this year.
Actually, the third shot looks a bit more in focus when it is very small than it does on the original.
I wasn't sure if the reeds at the bottom detracted from the first image. I feel a bit more heartened now! Thanks!

Great shots Lee, the first one is sensational, spooky, mysterious, the whole thing. I like the foreground reeds.
The two lightning shots are excellent. I am still to capture any goddam lightning, so am very envious.

the first one is a standout for me.
outstanding colour, like the clouds also.
the second one has nice lightning but not as good as the first.
Dont look OOF to me but I am only looking on my notebook right now.

I have to agree the first shot is a rippa (and well worth the hurried drive). I might have been tempted to crop a little off the top but in all its probably more impressive as it is.
I don't mind either of the lighting shots, the first one having more detail to keep the viewers attention then the second.

Very nicely put together. I like them all. They have a quality that is difficult to articulate...but it's kinda like....classical compostion and engaging.

The others are great too, but #1 is my pick
