I picked up my D200 from ECS today so the second delivery round has started
this is my first DSLR so I'll be struggling for a while as I get use to it
the hardest thing was to find something worthwhile to shoot for the very first shot

this is all I could find
D200 , Tamron 28-75 2.8 @55mm , ISO 100 , F8 , 1/100



it looks sharper full size and the files are BIG
I'll post more as I get use to the camera

Wouldn't mind seeing some close crops of the detail

ok for the pixel peepers :

100% crop "JPG large fine"
default in camera settings as far as sharpening etc is concerned
has had highlight/shadow adjustment in PS2 and very slight curves adjustment for white balance


same as above with smart sharpening 100 @ 1 basic in PS2


note this shot was hand held.... and badly at that as I'm only 14 weeks out of a full right shoulder reconstruction and I am have trouble holding the weight

Was the Tamron lens also purchased at the same time or did you have it previously? I noticed ECS's website has it listed at a somewhat higher than market price of $625...

the tamron is new and I did pay $625 for it from ECS
all the shops I went to were asking $700
I found it for $583 from dirt cheap cameras but by the time you add freight and the fact it was gray market I didn't want any hassles if I ended up with a soft copy or worse a faulty one
and I haven't been here long enough to access Birddogs great prices
the body would not be any use without a lens to start with

If you are not already, I really suggest shooting RAW.

I shot my first 10000 frames in JPG and now regret it - it's just not flexible.
Whereas with RAW you can adjust exposure, WB, contrast, etc all with easy sliders.

Storage is cheap, and you don't have to post process much if you don't want to, you can convert them to JPG or just shoot RAW + JPG.

So I take it you're happy with your copy of the 28-75? This lens is on my lust list too - but I've concerns with the sample variations reported, and it seems the market value has risen, making $625 not too unfathomable - it was ~$520-550 12 months previously, I guess word's got out and the lens' reputation is creating demand. Dammit, if only I hadn't procrastinated and bought it at first lust!
