Hi pharmer, they where my first impressions of the d50. Its true that the metering system is more agressive than a d70, but less PP is needed per shot.
Your second shot demonstrates just how well the camera and kit lens capture colour and contrast pretty well.

Hi Pharmer. I would like to add my welcome. Both great shots. Loved the one of the magpie. Great capture to get the bug in its beak.

Nice one, pharmer

It's amazing the level of control you can get when you go from a p&s to an SLR.

looks like you have done a good job with the magpie.
the black and white colours of these can cause exposure problems from having the blacks as greys and blowing the whites but you appear to have this about right.

Welcome to the forums, and I'm sure you'll really enjoy your D50, you'll be continually amazed by the quality over any run of the mill P&S.

Thanks everyone
Ran into a small snag with my D50 - all the images were displaying a couple of "hot pixels" in the bottom right corner. Bright red.
Got it swapped over this morning from the guys at JB's on Elizabeth St in Melb.
Back shooting now - loving it
