Mountain Stream (large image)

Sorry about the large image, but this one is quite detailed...

Image

Mountain Stream, foot of Mt Bogong, Alpine national park Victora

Outside temp: 38 Degrees
Water temp (goosebump estimate): ~10 degrees
AKA: the fridge...

Was very glad I had my Gitzo, setup was quite complex involving legs in the water and legs out at 180 degrees...

Used a CP to shed another stop or two and had to stop the kit down to f/18 which gave me 1/4s still would have liked it slower but even though it was nice and dark the gully it was bright outside (hard to stop blowouts)... should have gotten up earlier... but I was camping :)

Nice capture and looks like you accomplished well with your exposure under difficult conditions.

From the look of the area if you had gotten there at early light I think the shadows would have been too dark. The present light was probably to your advantage :D

Very nice capture Scott, under what sounds like difficult conditions.

Did you boost saturation much ? The greens seem to be quite saturated (on my monitor anyway - which is uncalibrated  ).

A 10-20 or 12-24 would have eaten this scene up......but the kit lens did a good job of it :)

Scott this is a good example of this type of shot which I like very much. In fact amj going out today and would hope to do something similar.

Yeah... boosted quite a bit..

Is it over the top...

I wanted to keep it dark but distinct... the way I achieved this was to boost the sat... and the colours there were very rich...

I wouldn't say it's over the top... I just noticed that the greens looked brighter than average.

The grass in the bottom left corner really jumps out at the viewer.

I like it :) Are there more pics ?

That water is so clean and clear, I'm betting its where bottled spring water comes from. Mmmm, delicious. ;)

Yep... will do more tonight!

Onyx: This is the only water where even the parks people say "dont bother boiling it"

It was sensational... Clearer than out of a tap (minus the clorine etc...)

Hi MHD, a nice shot and it's a good capture of the flowing water... nice colours and perhaps in the lower left corner you could clone out the out of place bits of grass?

Cheers,
Owen.

Nice capture Scott, and I appreciated the trouble you went to get the shot (I hope your insurance is uptodate). The water looks so cold and refreshing, wouldn't mind a big long glass of it myself. I think the saturation is good (and not over done).

good point owen... it does distract a bit... should have taken some scissors :D

Was fairly safe.,.. Actually I will be writing a bit for the forums soon on field photography and one rule is:
Aclimatise!!!!!!!!!!!
(ie dont get out of your ~10% humidity 25 degree car into 30 degree 95% humidity and expect your lens to stay clean!!!!!!!!!)

Just came across this thread now... I really like this, the opposing greenery from BR cnr to TL cnr, such a tranquil setting... Yep, I'd try to clone out the couple of grass stalks in the BL cnr, but nice setting and nicely framed...
