Yeah yeah....it's a Crimson Rosella in fact.

However my brain was being distracted by the Rainbow Lorikeets that are in my garden at the moment :)

Nice photo Darryl. I can only imagine how hard it is to track, focus and shoot @ 700mm (even on a tripod).

An outstanding outcome !

Fine portrait Darryl. Lovely OOF background. You're technique with that 'monster' lens needs to be applauded. :)
cheers

Nice shot Darryl... (as always)...

While I'm on, maybe someone can help me identify a bird that spent a few minutes in our back garden yesterday... Unfortunately not enough time for me to fetch my camera...

It was the same size and shape as a rainbow lorikeet, but was pale blue and white in colour... I'd never seen one before and definitely not in our garden...

Any ideas?

If it was of the parrot family then I'm guessing it was a domestic Budgerigar as we don't as far as I know have anything with those colors that is native/wild.

Very nice photo. You have done an excellent job capturing those saturated colours

nice pice of a rosella Darryl.
nice perch too. good OOf background.

wonder if leeks bird is a eastern rosella, if it is as big as a lorrikeet??

As an aside, I found an african peachface parrot in my yard this morning.
Have managed to capture it because they arent native to this country. so undecided as to what to do with it.
Normally with sick birds etc, I would look after them until they are well enough to return to the wild but this one isnt native so I wont be releasing it around here. Is also in good condition so I expect it hasnt been out long.

I need to either find its owner or someone who breeds them or has a suitable sized aviary. Its not spending the rest of its life in a birdcage if i have anything to do with it.

So Pending its owner being located, I have a young-ish peach face who will be looking for a good home. If you have a suitable aviary and experience with these birds, leave me a message. Its not going to someone who wants to put it in a small cage.
Birds should fly free.
Sydney area would obviously be the best.

Steve I wouldn't have thought it was an Eastern Rosella because he said it was blue and white. I would of thought he would of mentioned it it had limes and reds aswell?

As for the found bird, I'm assuming you're talking about a Peachface Lovebird? If so they're renowned for being escape artists according to what I've read. Make good pets apparently.

did consider that darryl, but he said as big as a lorrikeet.

budgerigars are noticeably smaller.

just wondering if the sun didnt make the colours look white.

if it was blue and white, the only ones I recall looking like that are domestic budgerigars.
The wild ones are mostly green and yellow.
one morning I was in a tree with a huge flock of them. This was at Byrock in western NSw and there were thousands and thousands of them.

I did think it was a budgie at first, but it seemed far too big to me...
It was almost exactly the same as a rainbow lorikeet except for the colouring. It was very inquisitive and had a great time pecking at my daughters Play-Doh before she managed to scare it away. Its chirp wasn't as harsh as a lorikeet's though...

Hopefully it'll pay another visit when I have my camera with me...

That was my only other thought aswell Steve.

Most likely a male, although it's more a greyish-blue.
