It was hard work, but I think they came out much better than the ants I did before.

Macro BeesHad some time to kill today so strapped the Canon 500D to the Nikkor 80-400VR and chased bees.

Nice work. Are you using a diopter / close-up lens on the 80-400 or does it focus that close on its own????

Hi SteveGriffin,
I am using a Canon 500D close-up "filter". The Nikkor 80-400VR can only focus to as close as around 2m. I just wish I had more depth of field. ![]() Daniel Nikon D4, D2Xs, D70, Nikkors and Sigmas lenses from 10 to 400mm

G'day Daniel,
That 500D's a terrific close-up filter eh? That first one really jumps out at you with such great, vivid color, and the bee looks sharp as a tack too! The last time I did that, I was just hoping no-one could see me chasing those buggers round the backyard ![]() Aka Andrew
G'day Mudder,
Looks to be. ![]() I was a bit disappointed the first time I used it. I was trying to shoot ants, which were too small and I had all sorts of problems trying to get them in focus. This time it seemed just so much easier. The bees are bigger and easier to focus on.
Thanks. It's my fav. ![]()
