Went to the Open-air cinema last night. Truly wonderful. It's so surreal sitting there in Sydney harbour watching a film whils the bats fly past the screen. I had to pinch myself several times.

Anyway, fired off a few shots. Would appreciuate C&C on them. All taken with high ISO as I didn;t have a tripod with me.

Shot #1 - the one that got away. How I wish you had a tripod. The elements are all there. No problem with the blurry screen, but the skyline and sky are just too soft. And the moon too. This was a really hard shot for me to critique since I like - no I love - everything about this except for the softness

Shot #2 - superb and very well exposed for hand held.

Shot #3 - I understand the concept, but there is just too much red for me and the thing hanging off the right of the screen really distracts me.

Shot #4 - needs something stronger at the end of the arrow eg someone bending over

You serious? I was there on the 1st Feb as well. Are you watching Casanova? I brought my camera and tripod but didn't take any decent pix, too many ppl and too little space.

Your shots are a great record of the night.........

1 and 2 are brilliant
3 the red screen is a little off putting other than that just great
4 just fantastic,,,,,,,,but could do with a much tighter crop some more contrast so it becomes a bit like grit, and the sign in the background stand out a bit more....... if this makes sense.......

Shot #2 has produced the goods Matt composition and exposure great and the none to subtle metaphor for high society or could I be reading too much into it. Although, isn't this a measure of the success of an image

peter, obviously the 4th shots is of a stripper, since the cinema post is in front of the exit.

The water splash in the glass shot with the city as the background is really nice. I agree with peter, all the shots are perfectly exposed and superbly done.

I'm totally gutted I didn't have a tripod with me. I could have spent all my time photographing rather than watchng the film.......which was ok, not great, but it had the very sexy Uma Thurman in it.

Matt Lovely shots.

#1 While I'm not as excited or disappointed as stubbsy about this one, its a nice shot, but heres a new mantra for you night = tripod, repeat 3 times and you'll be right, its experiences like this what make you not forget it again in a hurry

#2 Lovely shot, and amazing for handled, great image on the screen and what better backdrop could you ask for ??

#3 After a lot of contemplating this ones is my favourite, while others get put off by the red, in this case I'm lapping it up, its lovely and the composition is gorgeous in this one... if I could have a modern art exhibition this would be how I'd present it... at night hanging in the harbour.. (I guess that rules our original pieces, but what the heck)

#4 Very clever but doesn't fit the rest of the series... regardless well spotted and gave me a good laugh

Matt - a nice collection.

#1 - to hell with tripods - take the shot. This is the kind of pic where the slightly OOF background could be placed into perspective if the screen pic was sharp. Photoshop is your friend and a cloned in image would lift this beyond excellent.

#2 - a great perspective and a very good capture.

#3 - This shot really does nothing for me - the great expanse of red captures the eye too much and becomes a distraction.

#4 - Too many conflicting images - it reminds me of that old saying ”keep it simple stupid”
