Long time reader, short time member, first time poster :)

Was out watching the parting storm on Friday night a couple of weeks back and as the lightning was a dud, decided to take some photos of the funny lighthouse thing and the sand pump... hope you like em (have only been cropped and framed)

Hey Matt - welcome to the forum :)
Love the first shot - for some reason the first thing I thought of was Aurora Australis :)

Matt

Welcome. The first shot is superb - looks like something from a science fiction film. A space cruiser against the stars.

Welcome to the forums!

Love the first one, for the same reason as Stubbsy it really looks like a towering space station, just beautiful!

Shot number two doesn't have the same impact, but it is nice!

The last shot, I really like it as well has a eerie ghostly type feeling.

love the first two. do have a surreal feel to them.

I have sat there plenty of evenings eating my fish and chips watching the action at dbar.

with the second shot, as I scrolled down I was initially presented with the shot without the fence in it and a pano shot of the lighthouse.

I liked the shot as a pano with no fence in it. wonder if you had considered that.

Either way a nice shot.

Welcome to the forum, and good on you mate for a brilliant first image posting. I mean, this first photo is just perfectly exposed and the sky looks great. It's easy enough to expose properly for a building, but getting so much details in the sky, that's really great! Don't bother about equipment, it doesn't matter what brand you use as long as you get good shots.

Link.

would be good if you could post the exif stuff about the first two, including time of day.

as everyone is saying, the whole scenes are perfectly exposed.

Hi Guys... No PS or PP on any of those images (cropping and rotation doesn't count right?) all shot with a 20d and a 16-35mm ef f2.8 L-series lens.

as for exif info:

pic 1: shutter - 13sec F/5 focal length 16mm ISO-800
pic 2: shutter - 6sec F/4 focal length 22mm ISO-800
pic 3: shutter - 30sec F/11 focal length 28mm ISO-800

hope this is the information you wanted

thanks again for all the great feedback... will post up more pics as I can dig them out of adobe photo album...

theres some others on http://www.photo.net/photos/mattson

cheers,

Matt

pretty much what I was interested in but also time of night.
just shot it with magic light. just trying to recreate the moment in my head or store it away for later use should the moment arise.

G'day Matt,

Wow, great first post!

These have a wonderful surreal feel to them, the lighting is brilliant... If you'd actually planned for something else but changed and captured these unplanned, then you've shown a good eye... And no PP? First one's the pick of the bunch for me, such overpowering authority with that sky background... Strewth these look even better now if they're straight out of the cam... Well done...

Love the first pic. Composition and lighting really makes the image pop out at you.
