Went for a fishing trip today down to the feeder creeks to the Salt pans between Bajool and Port Alma (Aprox 60 kms South of Rocky)

The fishing trip was a non event but the midday sun gave an awsome pink tinge to the foot or two of water over the salt pans...

I didnt have much time to play so i pretty much went Auto... but would like some input for next time as to how I might acheive more colour detail etc straight from the camera...

You can see the lines left by the machine they use to scoop up the salt from the pan


Thats not sand along the edge... Some Salt anyone???

Brett. I'm struggling to see how you could improve those images much, especially the first one. Perhaps a play with colour balance and shadow/highlights in PS might help a little in 2 and 3 to bring out the vibrancy of the sat pan and the sky?

Mate, that is such an extraordinary and unusual subject. Although i've seen plenty of salt lakes in my time, yours is different and interesting due to the lines you refer to. I have often wondered why the water becomes pink, when salt is white. Nature is an amazing thing.

Great images but i reckon you could get a bit more saturation out of it in Photoshop. Altough they look fine as they are. A bit of exageration can sometimes be useful.

Apparently the Pink is due to the angle of the light through the water and relecting off the Salt Crystals

When we got there in the morning some of the pans were empty of all water and were plain white... the others that still had water in them were a murky green brown and blue colours...

I tried a little PP in PS but im pretty unskilled in all PS's wizardry... Whatever i did to try and enhance the blue sky for example wuld detract from the pink water...

Just need more practive
