I was at Taronga Park Zoo on Saturday - eight hours of walking and shooting (fun! tiring!)

Comments / suggestions for improvement more than welcome. (If the weather is good, I'll probably be going back there this weekend!).

I love the giraffe image. Maybe it's just me (I'm no expert) but some fill in flash under the neck might have been nice. But would that have startled the poor animal into a frenzy?

Did you use a tripod for any of your zoo shots, just wondering what Taronga's policy is?

I will be going there in the next few weeks with the wife, I was thinking about taking my monopod along.

I was wondering about that, what does being a friend of the zoo get you ? Or should I not be lazy and google it myself

Invites to special events (eg another chance for you to donate to the zoo ), no waiting entry (special line) but best of all - unlimited visits for 365 days a year (including Christmas Day). Just checked it has gone up since last year to $75 but still great value.

I might give the Friends of the Zoo thing some thought. I tend to go once a year... but I could always write it off as part of my commitment to furthering my photography, right??

Definitely no problem with tripods or monopods, I saw some people taking video on a tripod while also shooting with a pretty impressive canon DSLR. I didn't bring mine on the day. I reckon the reptile house is a bit crowded during the day and it might cause some annoyance to have a tripod, but a monopod surely wouldn't offend.

Oh, and re fill-in flash? It occurs to me now that I found out on the day that one of the giraffes is actually blind : it's the one that sticks its tongue out a bit more than the others, and I think it was this one! Aaarrghh!!!! (That said, I only had enough time to rattle off two shots before the giraffe went back to munching on food located within the enclosure... good point, though)
