This is part 5 from the David Jones premiere show
The best is yet to come like colections from Scanlan & Theodore, Wilow, sass & Bide, sabatini, Collette Dinnigan and Akira. Since i know the designer from Bare(Rebecca Davies) I was working on this set last night for her so i just conveniently plonked them into this post.
Might as well tell you a little story about my shooting process too

shot these with the 85mm f1.4 at f4 1/250 ISO400

This is probably her best piece in my opinion
Image
The spot light was white this time very different effect form the usual tungsten/halogen spots they use so that's why everything looks so pale, on some models it looks nice but the white light makes the clothes look pale, so a little production error on the part of the production team, i was thinking at shooting at a warmer kelvin to compensate but thought shoot it as it is.
The models also seemed to stand closer to the press box than usual so i've got lot of half body shots which is fine, but full body shots are required as well becuase the fashion extends to the shoes it's importnat to show everything. I was positioned at the end of the furthest extent to the right so i got some nice angles from there but in the 2nd pic model angle ain't too good. One advantage of being on teh right is that you don't get that intrusive david Jones sign in the background and i knew i wanted to be there to avoid that, i've seen other shots from the dead centre and they dont look so good because of the busy background.

left image wanted these sort of shots from the far end with two models in opposite directions just makes for a more interesting shot, image on the right is of the first Native Australian model, it was her debut but i can't remember her name(how bad of me)
Image

not a very good pair, feet cut off and the light makes the models face look a bit strange, times like this you need to use a flash to clean up the shadows in the face, but at the same time the flash even at lowest power reveals the background which in this case is the audience, so opted not to use the flash, in this case just needed to wait for the mdoel to get closer so the angle of the light woudl hit her face right, shooting runway is a bunch of compromises. The 2nd pic just ain't a good pose.
Image

I always try my best to get a shot with the models foot on the floor, taking picks of models in half stride when the foot is not on the ground is not desirable. This was a nice outfit - very marketable.
Image

I always merge my images in triplets to show progression and to get every angle of the garment, best is far runway model walking, then half body shot(detail) then the back even though the usuable shot is mostly the posed shot. In some cases I pair 2 images together if i need to show detail in the garments.
Image

AF autofocus tracking walking models in dynamic light also missfocuses at times so you need to be prepared to loose some shot opportunities, that's why alot of the time most photographers just take the posed shots instead of the walking ones. I always use the single af area mode and focus on the chest area for best results
left pic good both feet on the ground, 2nd shot bad just because of the angle i was shooting at, this would of looked better shot from the centre of the media box
Image

left shot: bad the coat looks wide because of the angle an the timing it was shot at, it''s actually a tailored coat, depending on how the model walks the garment is carried differently and you have to try your best to capture the garments looking their best along with the stride of the model and the light hitting the model. Image on the right is a much better half body shot, the angle is just right, i don't think it would have looked as nice if shot from the centre of the press box, you get a mix of good and bad ones from the right side of the press box
Image

next runway post will be a much better with lots of creative frocks.

Thanks Wendell, not only do you take great pics, but you've taken the time to explain your methodology, behind the shots and how you present them. I'm a fan for the girl in the green (seen her a few times now) but that green piece really is something that a non model could wear and pull off I think.

Hi Wendell,

I like your model shots series and this one I like too except one model - this time I'm going to say something negative! Girl in the green must be colour-corrected! Her skin looks like dead man's skin. I do understand it's a light made this trick but anyway it's very distractive for me.
Sorry for being that rude!

Nice work once again. One weakness in the images is that none of the models are eyeballing you. You gotta get em to gaze deep into your lens because the lack of eye contact means your images are missing that one element that can suggest intimacey. They won't look at you if you are working in the shadows. Get upfront. PS love the colours in the fashions and love your control of the background.
