Taken at Tyabb (Vic) Airshow on Sunday, the car left the plane standing at the start but soon caught up and passed him

NB, great pic mate i love the Extra 300 plane. I love them aerobatic planes as i had a few remote control
model planes i used to fly of this type of aircarft. Pitty the car is a bit out of focus but still great pic and we cant always have they wat y we want. Well done.

what was the shutter speed?
wide F2.8 is quite shallow DOF, and altthough sharp on your lens it seems (have to see high res) I reckon you had lots of light to play with ... personally, if there was tons of light to afford it, i would have gone for perhaps f5.6 , f6.3 or even f7.1 ... deeper DOF and therefore car and plane in focus ... naturally a slower shutter, so perhaps too slow if you were panning quickly or not enough light. (even so id probably bump up the ISO and still maintain the deeper DOF.)
anyway, just a thought, i wasnt on the ground !

Hi Darb, yeah , points well taken, the problem i had was that the Edge (aircraft) is a fast sucker and has very irregular/jerky movements close to the ground and as i had missed two previous attempts (all blurred) going for depth of field and i was determined to get something in focus (i was jammed in to the crowd on the fence and couldn't use my monopod) so i had to trade off dof for shutter speed whilst not going too high otherwise i would not blur the propeller

NB, still a great pic and i know at these shows you are stuck for room i remember while at Avalon Airshow it was like standing room only in some places although we were there early and had seats near the fence didn't stop wankers from squeezing in standing up in front of us.
The Edge 540 i belive, is a very fast slick plane like the extra and sukhoi and getting this image in the conditions still a great effort.
I agree with Darb but yeh next time use that monopod mate and beat them off.LOL

I used to live there. Visited the airshow every year. They used to have a beautiful P-51 Mustang in superb condition at the airfield.
