Some great shots!
The macaw is a highlight for me - the colours are really vivid. Did the sun break through mid shoot, or is it a good curves/saturation adjustment?
I'm currently researching canon lenses - which lens did you shoot the macaw with? Cheers.

Hi Big V..
I like the Conservatory shot alot - I think it's cos I've seen SO many photo's of that place and it's nice to see something a bit different. I also like the tree roots..beautiful.

Mitchell, no saturation or anything like that, fill flash is the answer, it always makes the colours look better in overcast conditions..
The lens was a 50mm 1.8, cheapest canon lens you can buy but one of the best performers.
Here is another example of what this lens can do..who needs macro?

The tree roots look nice.
I'm going to have to keep going back to the zoo until I get a good shot of the macaws in flight.

Conservatory second and roots #1 by a long way. The roots (fig tree?) have a lovely flow to them and the low framing really enhances the effect.

Daniel, that is one of the advantages of membership..you can go as often as you like. They perform everyday at 1.00 as long as it is not raining. They always do the same routine, so it gets easier to predict their flight path but they do fly low and quick and it is only a 30m length, so as fozzie said not much time...

Yes, I've tried to get them twice. I can't focus quick enough, so I have to try and remove that limitation.

Daniel, can you get there on a thursday? Pre focus is a good technique that I use on these birds and because the flight path is so predictable, easier to do than most circumstances..

For the moment my thursdays are free, so I could probably come this or next thursday.

I tried to do that with them coming head on, but then they are only in the zone for such a small time I usually missed it.

#1 and #2 are my pics Big V. Lovely captures. #1's composition makes this shot and the sense of movement and the balanced exposure of #2 make it a winner.
