The first one doesn't do too much for me, but I really like something about the second one. Have you done much or any PP to these? Looks almost like you've done some seletive destat on the 2nd pic ?
Fair enough, I like the effect anyways. Almost reminds me of the Rokkstar "MattB" patent pending destat look.

I really like the prickles on the first one. They pop right out. The second one is cool, I even sort of like the slightly washed/blown flower.
What lens? The bokeh looks remarkable.
Thanks Dooda Its just the 18-70mm IF-ED DX lens wide open at F4.5 @ 70mm I dropped (smashed) my 18-55 kit lens that came with my D50 and replaced it with the 18-70 and have been very pleased with the sharpness, colour and bokeh of it. Got me hankering for a 50mm F1.4 or 1.8 and a VR 80-200 F2.8 ![]()
Very nice! the D50 sure does handel well, what metering mode did you use for the second one because it handeled well for the contrast between the flower and the darkers cactus skin.

I've found the metering to be pretty spot on - it uses the newer Matrix II metering (same as the D2x and D200, but with fewer cells)
The photo was taken in aperture priority with the evaluative matrix metering. I generally only use spot or centre-weighted for birds/planes against the sky or for intended silhouettes The only down side (for me) of the D50 is the SD card, if I ever move to a d200/D2X or a sucesssor, I'm going to have to get CF cards.
