Hong Kong

Coming back from my China trip late last year, I had a couple of days in Hong Kong. I'd been there before, so I concentrated on taking shots I hadn't the last time.

Comments and Criticism welcome, please.

1.Bank of China Building. I'd pretty much covered the entirety of it last time around, so I thought a gratuitous reflection-of-sunlight shot was warranted:

2. Bank of China Building by night. Not so sure about this one...

3. Motion-blurred tram (ISO800 and 1/6second, hand-held, the product of about 20mins worth of attempts):

4. Jackie Chan's star on the Hong Kong film walk of fame. Had to use a bit of a crazy tilt to fit in the Hong Kong skyline...
Image

5. Random shot. At Hong Kong Disneyland, the carousel is the place to chimp your photos :)

6. "Ding A Meal" = "Microwave Food". Makes perfect sense to me!

I really like the colours and the style of the blurred tram. I'm not sure about your funny angles. I find them hard to look at but the skyline in the Jackie Chan one looks great!

The panning of the tram is special..well done. Thats a great catch. Also a fan of #2 and #5 - another great panning shot. I have to agree with some of the comments RE: angles...

I love the blurred tram photo. Well done for your creativity there.

In fact, one of the world's cheapest thrills is to jump on the tram at Sheung Wan (near the Hong Kong Island Macao Ferry Terminal) and get the top front seats and ride all the way along to jump off at Causeway Bay. Total cost when I was last there in 2004 was HK $2.00 (40cents Aust approx)

Brilliant!

Thanks for the other photos. They all bought back great memories.

Cheers

Graham

Actually it is only about 36cent Aust :) It is still HK$2.00 in 2006 :D
The cheapest and slowest transport in Hong Kong

Very beautiful.
Typical HK images.
Guys in HK will take not better than you.
1. Bank of China building at night: lighting is very special,
I have seen many of similar photos and this is the best.
2. Never know thd tram can be a running horse
3. Jackie Chan' star: very nice and capture every thing in the picture.
I have been there and found very difficult to take a good shots.

Well done! Thanks for sharing.

Nice shots. Iam having a stopover in HK later in the year and will try to emulate some of your great shots. Will take a ride on the tram as well and have thought of an idea for a different tram shot.

Thanks heaps for the feedback: yeah, I love Hong Kong. The heat and humidity were a bit oppressive this time round (in November, though??) but the photography opportunities were many. Until I started getting a cold from all the hot/humid interspersed with cool/dry airconditioned environments.

My photos of the laser light show didn't turn out, which is a shame. They should do that twice or three times a night, in my opinion!

Definitely recommend going to HK when it's cool(er) and dry(er). The view from The Peak is an absolute highlight. If you're ever there and there's not too much pollution go there immediately and take your photos because my understanding is that if it doesn't rain and it's not windy, the haze just grows and grows and grows. Pollution is good for shooting directly into the sun at sunsets, but otherwise quite annoying. Especially when there's pretty buildings to photograph across the harbour.

Disneyland is fun, but in comparison to others (Tokyo, Paris) it is small. I think they're planning to enlarge bit by bit.

Re : crazy tilts. Yes, it was a bit of a phase I was going through! Justified some of the time, but not all of the time.

Great pics BT. The Bank of China building at night is nice. Good catch of the chimping girl on the merry-go-round. Always enjoy going to HK even though I've been there about 4 times in the past year with work.

Congrats on the Blurred Tram, I like that image the best.

The Jackie Chan star looks great, I like the angles. I might be interesting to see how it looks if rotated slightly so that "Jackie Chan" is parallel with the side of the image ?

Hong Kong is a great place, I've still got fond memories sitting in the cockpit of a 757 watching over the captains shoulder landing at Kai Tak airport, wish I had my D70 in those days :?

/M.

The tram shot is a classic and well worth 20 mins of effort.
