Well I managed to get photgraphers access to the recent round of the NSW Moto X series held at Bathurst on the weekend. Alas I could only stay at the track for two hours due to work and wife constraints :D

The day was very bright, and extremely 'glarey' due to low light cloud. I didn't have a CPL for the 70-200, so I sort of avoided any 'air' shots, as the glare make the images next to useless. CPL to be ordered soon!

I'm pretty happy with my results, and have a new understanding of why I need personal insurance. Standing trackside next to 15 maniacs jostling for position as the scream by is a little nerve wracking

The lows,

Cool, calm and collected,

As usual comments and critcism welcomed. Please, fire away!

Nice stuff Raskill :) The trick is not to let them get to your nerves :) Once you start getting nervous, then your pics will suffer. Then again, a little bit of adrenaline never hurt anyone :D

Hey Ras, nice shots but i know the feeling and most times i can be out of the road without being in that danger zone too much and look as if i am right up there with them.

I do get close to the action at times and i know most of the riders and how they ride and will pick my spots but i love it. Great pics there and yes sun can be a problem at times but i dont use a cpl as to rather find the right spot to shoot from so as not to look into the sun so getting on the bright side of the bike helps, but like my weekend got covered in dust as usual.
Have fun.

Looking good Alan! I think I perfer moving wheels when they're on the ground, so #2 isn't so good for me in that respect, looks a bit too static. With the others in mid-air you know the bike isn't static, so it's ok. It does show the suspension compression nicely though, and the rest look great! :) Did you think about using fill-flash to better expose the sky?

Nice shots Raskill. Like #2, wheels might be frozen but look at the suspension compression and tyre deformation, really amazing.

Bathurst is great place hey.

Grest shots Raskill, i like the last 2 the best.

Don't be afraid to get in there, just be careful, also get one ey in the viewfinder and the other on the bikes
you get what you get, always learn from the mistakes

Raskill,

Getting sharp, well composed shots of moving subjects is an art in itself. These shots are excellent.

Well done

Cheers

nice sharp pics. try getting some different angles and at different track sections i.e. action in the berm. also your horizons are a bit crooked.

Thanks for the comments folks. It was fun to say the least. I'm going to try to find another race soon and get to it, improve my skills a bit more.

Trent: Didn't notice the wheels on that image. I'm definetly a fan of blurred rims also. I think that the wheels had stopped spinning momentarily when the bike landed at that instant, the same time I took the shot.

Jeff: I was thinking about that mysterious 'third person' when the bikes were going by! :D :D

Jerry: Your right about the horizons, but I think having them tilted in fast sports shots adds something 'hectic' to the image. Of course, I might be wrong :D

Cheers All!
