A couple of 70-200Vr pics

I just got myself one of these beauties recently and all I can say is wow. I can now see why everyone has been raving about it. It weighs a ton but boy is it nice.

Just spent a bit of time down on the beach and came away with a few pics including these 2.

This lens is wonderfully sharp:



The second was a couple silhoutted by the sun. I didn't want to get too close as they would have just been looking down the barrel of my lens. I felt like I might have been intruding a bit. Colours came out quite well. Camera on autoWB.



Both photos have only had some minor curves adjustment and some smart sharpening.

Geoff, both photos are fantastic. I love the colours that you've captured and that lens is so damn sharp. The second image in particular is just sublime. Well done and keep up the good work.

#2 is a pearler. I was thinking exactly what Phillip suggested as a crop. Gives more impact as the subjects are looking into more space.

Yes, nice crop. I always have a nasty habit of centering a lot of my pictures. Something that I must try and remind myself not to do. I like both images. Will have to do a bit of thoughtful contemplation about which I prefer.

Lovely shots Antman. You can be justifiably proud of them. I prefer Phil's crop but it was a magic image to start with and once you've acheived that, you can do what you like with it so well done.

Did you shoot RAW? If so, I'd be tempted to warm the colours up a bit on the silhouette shot to make them a little more golden/orange rather than the sepia/yellow look they now (or at least on my monitor). You say you shot with Auto WB - try shooting with Shade or Cloud WB and see how you go. Makes a nice difference to the intense light in sunsets.

The 1st was shot jpg.

The second was raw. I haven't had a real chance to play with the images yet but I will do so. I was a bit suprised at the colours I got with the 2nd pic - not quite what I was expecting. It was late afternoon sun. Thanks for the advice.

Splendid Geoff - you say that the 70-200VR is heavy, but it's surprising how quickly you do get used to it...you are right, in good hands this is a STUNNING piece of glass - my favourite lens in my collection.

Antman, great work. Love the light on #1, as well as the perfect timing as he is cutting up the wave. The sunshine on the board is special.

That lens is working a treat for you. The surfer is razor sharp and well framed. Congratulations ! Those buggers don't seem to keep still long enough for me...

The second shot is my favorite, the colour is stunning, although I prefer Phillips crop with the two people in the lower thirds. It makes the image slightly more appealing to the eye.

The 70-200VR is on my list... must resist, must resist....

yeah the 70-200 vr really is a great lens. I am enjoying my lens so much these days. Its always attached until the 17-35 comes along. Still saving for that mumma.

Beautiful stuff, while the first shot is good. The second in my mind is fantastic. Beautiful silhouette, lovely colour in the sky and it has emotion tied into the shot aswell. Congrats on your new toy, I'm sure you'll enjoy it immensely.

The colour and crispness of the first one is superb! (How many lenses am I allowed to lust after at any one time??)

The second one (crop #2, also #1 but I prefer #2) is also very, very good : more of a "perfect standard image" if you know what I mean.

I am very happy with both the pictures and the lens.

I can now see why people are willing to pay top dollar for good quality glass. The satisfaction of obtaining top quality images from the equipment is just immense. Let the lens lusting begin.

Wonderful work, Geoff.

Its great to pay big dollars for lenses and end with sharp results like this - well worth the money. Of course, congrats on your photography as well. Without using the correct composition, lighting etc, etc it makes no difference how good the glass is.
