Pt 2 of Loreal Fashion Week

the Akira Isogawa show was the best in terms of subject matter presentation concept and most importantly fashion. It was a pleasure to witness and shoot something so creative incorporating a narrative and dance all to present the fashion in the best way possible. the lighting was really low so i shot at f2.8 1/200 (50th sec slower than my usual pref) ISO800, white balance 3800Kelvin no flash with the 85mm f1.4. Most shots have a slight blur due to the lack of light. Being late I actually missed half the show, i'm still kicking myself over it too!
Actually there were 3 other designer shows that incorporated the same dance format for their shows but this one was the most beautifully presented.

Hi Wendell,

These are very nice. The flash would certainly ruine the atmosphere. How do you set WB as specific temperature value? Is that an option available in D2X?

Dude! The first shot is sublime. It has a fairy-like feel to it. Not sure what your aperture was set to, but the blurryness and DOF really makes the scene here! Great stuff!

thanks glen, think your taste is quite sophisticated what do you mean your too boofy?

Alex colour temp set in kelvins may be an option exclusive to the d2x and d2h i think on the d70 you can change colour temp by increments like +1 +2 +3 warmer image -1 -2 -3 cooler image

the main lighting had a warm cast my colour balance was biased to a cooler tone hence some pics look a little dull because of it but in others the bluish tone balances out the colour balance nicely

flash would of definately destroyed the modo the lightign was very subtle and dim, also a lot of junk in the background too like a projection screen, flash also flatens the look of a scene as it woudl emphasise the dancer at the back as well.

wayne i was using f2.8 wanted to go down lower but DOF at f1.4 at the distance i was at was just too shallow.

Some lovely shots Wendell, shame you were late. Did you have any problems getting in late ? I've heard some places are ruthless when it comes to being on time, if you're not, the doors remain shut.

as always it's a constant negotiation
see what happens for media there is a publicist at the media desk to cherck you out and give you a pass for each show, they were not there becuase they went of to see the show so i had to sneak in with my previous days pass which i didand then to my horror find out that the press box was full hell with getting a good spot so i shot in the aisle lots of my other photos have heads in them
since i was shooting low but in the end still a great experience dance and fashion photographically is just fantastic.

some very nice shots here especially with the conditions. some of the crops with the feet and hands cut out bother me tho, but thats just me. job well done.

Wow - you are really showing mastery of the 1.4 I know I'm looking at good work when I get envious!- I'd love to go to one of those shows.....These shots are sooo sublime makes me feel like I'm in a dream Somebody once told me that cameras make people look 5-10kg heavier than they actually are - those girls must be pretty thin....

thanks i shot this show without a monopod to because i had no time to setyp so i guess at 1/250 even twice recommended shutterspeed for 85fixed focal length there is still slight blur, the image imrpovement you get when using a monopod is very noticeable

the show was great reminded me of a Sydney Dance production, top class.
