Some friends called me over last night to get a couple of shots of these Blue Banded Native Bees that have taken up night time residence outside their garage door. Cutest little things.

Comments and critic please. They were taken with a 60/2.8 with 36 & 56 mm extention tubes.

Lovely shots. Nice and sharp.

I find the background a bit distracting on the top right one.

They intrigue me too these bees. Only once have I found them roosting for the night.

Was your flash on or off camera?

I was using 2 flashes both off camera. SB800 connected via an SC29 a the master and a SB600. I held the camera and pulled the trigger whilst 2 others held the flashes. Cosy little gathering.

Looks like I need to do a PS jobbie on the background in #2

I love the image in the top left. That is a great composition and its sooo sharp ! You can see the flash and a shadow in the bee's eye, I actually don't think its distracting as I didn't notice at all until I really looked at the image. The sharpness is great, you can literally see the grain of the hairs, its certainly mesmerising.

The background and shadow across the first bee is a bit distracting in the top right. The bottom left looks a bit over exposed. The bottom right seems to he a bit short on on DOF. They are still great images but I didn't think quite as good as the top left.

As a series they are great and its a bee I've not ever seen before. My wife's family are bee keepers so I've seen a one or two.

My money is on the top left image, I like this one the best ! Congrats on some great images
