Thanks Liam.
It was fun shooting them with the 150mm macro lens (most of them).

Yep they do indeed look like fireworks !
I like the same one as beetleboy (first row on the right) but also quite like the fifth one down (59391567-L) the purple on white and tight crop work for me, bright and the colour jumps out at you. The 9th one down also has the same effect with a hint more green.
Looks like you are enjoying this lens, there are some great shots in that series, congrats

Sensational images and a great diversion from what i find to be more normal boring flowers. These are amazing structures of nature.
So colourful and vibrant and full of 'bloom.'
Your flower technique is excellent.

Thanks Willy, Simon, Psionic and Steve for you comments.
Steve, yes, I'm trying to do something a bit out of the ordinary with these. Taking shots of parts of bigger flowers with macro lens up close.
Rod, a little explanation on how these were done. All taken during the day indoors. The flowers were set up at a flower show and there were dark clothes on the tables so I used that as a background. All with flash except the middle one on the top row (the one Beetleboy likes). The first 3 (the star burst ones were taken with a 50mm 1.4 lens at f2 to get the dof effect. 1 and 3 with flash, 2 without. The rest were taken with a 150mm macro lens, 1/60 sec between f8 and f16, all with flash.
Got a few more but these are the better ones.
Cheers

your first 6 are stunningly beautiful
The 3rd one is beyond the others though a real beauty
did you shoot these outside under the sun using a high ftsop to knock the background black or some kind of studio setup, I can't seem to work out the lighting environment - very skillfull on your part

Thanks Craig.
It's great doing shots of flowers at flower shows. Lots of really good blooms to work with. Trouble is they're usually jammed close together, making it difficult to compose the shot. On more than a few occassions I wanted to move some flowers, ribbons, cards and other bits and pices. But I think the organisers might have taken a dim view. I might follow up with the organisers to see if I can get special permission next year. Maybe bribe them with a few of these images.
Cheers
John
