The Channel 9 Newscopter was kind enough to fly past my lens this afternoon in Melbourne. I thought it was very kind of them to give me this special photographical experience free of charge and without ads.


D2H and 80-200mm F2.8 @ 200mm and F5.

Steve, you've stopped the motion of the helicopter nicely but just left enough blur on the rotors to see that they're moving. What was the exposure, about 1/1000 sec? I can't see the camera settings in your smugmug exif data.

I Like the way the photographers seat is facing out. Very useful.

Yay! We need more helicopter pics! This Squirrel is a French helicopter, so the blades spin backwards - look closely and you'll see!

I generally find air shots quite boring and like to see some ground features to make it interesting, however this one is quite ineresting because of the photographer. I agree a bit more rotor blur would be good but very hard to achieve while keeping the rest sharp.

Nice work Steve. Any pics of airborne choppers that I have taken have always frozen the rotors which looks unnatural. Yours is just right.
