Kate DeAraugo plays Hornsby Westfield

I was lounging around Hornsby Westfield when I learned that Australian Idol Winner Kate Dearaugo was slated to do a performance and sign autographs in about forty minutes time, on a small outdoor stage. I figured since I was only 5 minutes from home and I never really get a chance to do this kind of photography I might as well get the camera and take some shots.
When I got back to the shopping centre, I quickly realised I had to make a choice:
1. Fight to move in from of the 13/14 year old girls already several metres deep at the front of the stage (not likely - as a group they're highly dangerous).
2. Get myself a vantage point at a 5m+ elevation on a pedestrian walkbridge with a view of the stage which would mean (a) getting away from the screaming girls (b) getting a different and more unencumbered view and (c) not being able to hear the singing. Those were the positives. The negatives (a) shooting through glass at a distance of 10m plus (b) little likelihood of eye contact from Ms Dearougo.
Please provide feedback and feel free to be as ruthless as possible, since I've never done anything like this before and can only get better. For instance:
a) did I choose the right location or should I have braved the screaming fans?
b) did I take the right kind of photos?
"Maybe he'll crash through my waaaaaalllll..."
The closest I got to an eye-contact shot:
"The hurt it left inside, has made me wanna hiiiiide"
Kate Belts out Khe Sanh (umm... no, not really)
A bit later, Ms Dearaugo faces the prospect of an hour of signing albums and singles with equal parts bravery and resignation:
The official photographer and his "semi-impressive piece" (he also had more hair than I, which was equally annoying):
