ROC 2006 Mineshaft

Well I really enjoyed my first Rally experience, this series was the first Rally car over mineshaft, Crocker and Atkitson and man I was excited. Unfortunately there he was one of only two cars that really got major air. The rest were taking it a little more carefully. To save on downloads I kept the thumbnails small, click for bigger files.

Any feedback is really appreciated as this was my first time, I'm eager to learn more. This was taken with the 80-200 2.8 which I kept on the camera the whole day (avoiding getting anymore dust into the camera).

I just noticed I think tweaked the WB in the first shot but not in the others.

Good Job Craig - for the first time shooting a rally, you have done really well. :)

I must have been standing about 50metres to your right at this stage. :) I will post up some of my photos a bit later today, when I get time to properly process them. Damned Uni.

You are right though, the first car over (Cody Crocker)was absoloutely hammering along. I dare say a bit too fast, but he did well. :)

The mineshaft is actually steeper then it looks - I have been over it with mates a number of times while 4WD'ing out in the Cotter area, it is interesting going down in at 15-20kmh, let alone the 60-80+ these guys were doing. :)

The dust was bad though, dustiest rally I have been to.

Tristan - Thanks for the feedback, look forward to your shots. I didn't expect it to be so hard to try to pick DSLRusers, there were so many people with high end equipment, it was fun checking out everyone's equipment etc Yeah it was dusty, I was the fool with the yellow towel if you saw a guy with wrapping his camera up with it, that was me :)

Jeff - Thanks, I'd have loved to be in the media section, but I am happy with the spot we got at mineshaft, gave us a good view.

Wendell - I used filters (at times) and used a "glad-wrap" collar between my lens and camera. I also used a towel to wrap the camera with as the dust blew over. And these shots don't show how dusty it was, it was dusty!
