For Dug, Alpha Self Portraits to order

Well Dug, these are for you. Horribly rushed and I'd like to revisit with natural lighting.

Soft, badly focused, shit lighting and distracting backgrounds. I added a bit of grain to shot 2, an both were ISO 800.

Enjoy Dug :)

As Do I, I have to live with that face :)
If I've looking a little miserable I've had the flu the last few days, rather over it now.

I would try one myself, but the glare off my forehead pplays havoc with the metering

I hold Geoff responsible for this........

we are gonna get a rash of self portraits.
the only problem is that most of us (me included) look like dropped pies when compared to the POTW!

It would be unfair to hold Geoff responsible for these two, I'd already taken them (with Dug's encouragement). Nor is this my first attempt at B&W Self portraits, I think its a really challenging subject to shoot well. Macka's shot is a great example of getting it all right, I'd say most people would have a hard time getting a shot they are happy with (tieing it into MattK's recent comments) most people don't like looking at shots of themselves.

Craig - have a shave and remove some of the natural 'grain' - keep on trying, I look forward to your experiments. The 2nd imge in my opinion is far better than the first in this series. :D

I've unleashed something here... I've woken up to a multitude of self-portraits! :D

Craig, a problem in both is that you don't really look comfortable. (This is probably as much to do with your fear of self-portraits as the position you were in to try and take the photo.)

Well! another new topic of the week:

SELF PORTRAIT

Macka, you do have a lot to answer for

Craig, you can probably see how distracting the shadow over your chin etc is in the first. I think Macka advice about relaxing and your own about lighting are going to make some difference here. Try using a mirror so you can see how the shadow falls

Hey I thought Rokstar was the one who started all of this self portrait stuff!
He was the one who inspired me to post a self portrait a couple of months ago.
But it is nice to see that everyone is getting into it again. Maybe we could have a self-portrait thread.

I hadn't worn a shirt all day (I was sick at home) so why put one on for a adlib photo shoot ? :) Sorry if I've offended anyone
(I think a self portrait thread wouldn't be that bad, as long as it doesn't turn into another LDS thread :))

Craig
the 1st one is a revealing shot and to make it worse your looking right into the camera it's so in your face - very confronting

nice work

And Mal it really added to the dramatic affect, I can't image the same shot with clothes on being nearly as affective.

Fair enough - just getting my gear off now for a full nude portrait - watch this space. :D :D :D

I'll just take my tongue out of my cheek. :D :)

Good one Macka...you've started a scary trend in dslrusers - self topless portraits...

Craig, play around with some more lighting when you're feeling better dude. Everyone has a setting that suits them best, have a look at Rokkstar's self portraits - those were sublime in terms of colours and lighting. ;)

The imagery... looks like the competition is hotting up. I must admit I don't think I'm as flexible as Geoff would appear to be by that last comment.
