Playing in the backyard with really shallow DOF

I kind of liked the effect.

I like the effect as well. What lens did you use & how far away?

Hey Craig - glad you like it

Shot with the 105 micro Nikon, f7.1, 1/500, iso 200, fill flash with beer cup. The second shot the same but 1/400.

I was as close as I could get = so around 28cm. The shots have also been slightly cropped.

I find the first one much more engaging, assume it's because of the angle of the subject in the frame, great seperation with the DOF, works really well...

Would be tempted to crop the bright'ish OOF flower(?) in the BL corner though, or slightly darken the background... Just seems to take my eye away...

rel... love the first shot.. the shallow dof works nicely....

in the second one the angle doesn't quite work for me...

The first one is th best for me due to the angle, and can I ask, were you really using a beer cup ?
