I like the simplicity of the third shot. Nothing distracting in the background.

Love the "gritty" feel Mark, reminds me of Tri-X printed on Grade 4 paper

I Like the grit too, but the overthetop contrast feels just a little too garish and contrived.

Nice selection of photos. I too enjoyed the old school feel of #3, very tough, very Australian.

#5 could possibly be improved with a reworked crop, I feel his face or nose is jammed up against the edge of the photo.

Yeah I really like the photojournalist style here.....It's good to see black and white digital photography being done well.

What do you think the best way of converting to black and white is? I've heard that the image > adjustments > desaturate command in photoshop looses the least detail, and is superiour to image > mode > greyscale..

just a minor technical thing! I'm pretty pedantic about PP

greencardigan... ironically the simple shots are always the better ones...

jonas... unfortunately #5 is full frame.... turned around .. click... one of those shots that you just catch out of the corner of your eye but is gone too quickly to compose right... there will always be a next time though
