Hi Tyrone

#1
Oversaturated blues. Nice but a bit dull.
#2
Dont like the background and there is dark lighting ont he bird (shadows)#3
Its interesting - the background adds to the image. Have you considered a panoramic crop. It might work?
#4
Similar to #2. Looks nice and sharp though so well done there!
#5
Good pose by the subject and well positioned int he frame, but again it looks oversaturated (cyans) to me.

Cheers
Hope that helps! :)

G'day,

I assume these are all with the 70-300 judging by EXIF? I think that's not an AF-S lens so it makes the focus slower to react and makes it harder for you, I know I'd struggle with birds in flight... Althoung I hear you can "setup" some shots with chips I believe

The metering was matrix I think which may have helped the overall exposure, Aperture pri is a good way to go, I use that for any animal stuff I do as the light changes too much and find it's better to keep the aperture known and constant. They all seem to have really nicely balanced exposure too... Worth playing with some PP maybe to help with shadows if you want to...

All nicely framed, auto BW might be making the color adjustments between the shots too, if you shoot raw format and post process you can adjust later on a PC or something, dunno if you're into that or not...

Cheers.

Hi Tyrone. Good pics. I envy those that can capture a bird in flight. Thats why all my bird photos are taken with the birds perched on something. :(

The first one is by DX18-70 with CPL.
The others are by sigma 70-200 F2.8 HSM (much faster than 70-300G)
These photos were taken in Glenelg (Adelaide)
Thank you for all your comment.

Do you use continuous focus? I just assumed so. I've usually failed miserably when I've tried birds in flight I'm afraid, least I'm honest

Yes, I used continuous focus and set the AF mode to AF -C :D

I struggle with cropping too sometimes, it seems to work well here...

I like #4. The shadow on the ground gives it rhythm, makes it non-random.

Cheers
Steffen.
