Kookaburra stuff in fact
My first photo outing for about a month. Took over a hundred shots like this at Chichester Dam (main water supply for Newcastle and the Hunter - 98% full). The Kookaburras there were amazingly tame and happy to let us get within a foot or so of them. Click a pic for a larger version:

first shot is amazing. The amount of detail captured is exceptional. Second one isnt as appealing.

Great seperation of the subject in the first, and they both seem really sharp and detailed too...
Beautiful creatures aren't they? And a fantastic call too...

They woke me up every morning.

Thanks for your comments. I think these are trully amazing birds and the opportunity to get so close allowed for a range of shots you just can't get when they're in a tree.

Great images Peter. Good to see you back in action. Terrific sharpness, colour and complementary OOF background inthe first one.
cheers

first one is nice, peter
second one suffers from the angle. you needed to be laying on the ground for the second one.
Where ever possible, eye level makes for the best shots.

Thanks for the comments. I agree the second one is weaker, but I had a sore back and couldn't lie down to get the best angle

Instead I have about 30 like the first one, with the head at different angles.

Here's one more Kookaburra pic. I'm still not sure about this one since the perspective makes the bird less recognisably a Kookaburra.

Welcome back, Peter.
First shot is a corker. Very sharp and great that you have its eye so sharp (very important with wildlife shots).
Second shot unfortunately doesn't work due to angle and pic looks a tad oversharpened/saturated on my screen.
Look forward to more shots
Cheers
Michael
Edit - just went back to look at shots and they are gone! Smugmug are undergoing maintenance.....bugger....
