She was stunning, but was obviously getting on in age, and had worn away much of the 'hairs' on the body and cephalothorax .. um, the bit with the legs coming off

Rel, what sort of spider is this one ? Other then an old, semi-hairless one ?
It's a nice capture, sure to scare a few people I'd think.

I like that Rel. A nice silvery effect. Not your usual spider shot.

As best as I can tell going by the photos in the Queensland Museum Publications "Wildlife of Greater Brisbane" that is a spider!

In fact, it probably is a Golden Orb-Weaver (Eriophora transmarina)

Acording to the book, this spider is typically found in webs across pathways at night and she will readily deliver a painful hard strong bite.

Get plenty of these little fellows around home each year, hate them. Should see the little ones when they hatch, litterally thousands in the web. This must be the cousin of your spider, the photo was taken around xmas, he was hanging on the veranda.


Found one of his family hiding in tshirt I was putting on one day. He ended up climbing accross my ear and on to the top of my head before i swiped and he met an untimely death. He made a very weird clicking sound when he was on my ear, not sure if he was talking to me or it was the sound of his high heels on my wooden head.
