Great photos. Particularly love the colours in the last one.
The second one is a spotted dove, and the third one is a white cheeked honey eater - having more trouble with the 1st one - could be a thrush ![]() Canon EOS 350D Tamron 18-200mm
Just what do you think you're doing Dave?
1st one: I should know, but need to check a field guide
![]() 2nd one: Spotted Turtledove 3rd one: New Holland Honeyeater, unless there's a subtle distinguishing mark that I've forgotten and the field guide will point out...
little bit hard to see the first one, not sure and too lazy to get the field guide out
2nd spotted turtle dove fairly common in suburban backyards 3rd new holland honey eater. I posted one of these last week here: http://www.dslrusers.net/viewtopic.php?t=15458&highlight=holland quite like the shot of the dove. looks sharp and nicely exposed. good eye contact. diagonal background works well. new holland honeyeater suffers from a fairly steep angle on the shot but looks nicely exposed. not sure what bird book you get african bush parrot from.
Dont forget that parrots have curved beaks like lorrikeets and budgies etc. maybe that is some colloquial name. like flying rat or garbage can. definitely a dove. Steve check out my image gallery @

From memory the first is a White Plumed Honeyeater
![]() 2nd is definately a spotted turtle dove, we usually have about 20 in the garden eating the food that I put out for the lorikeets. 3rd I'm pretty sure is a New Holland Honeyeater aswell. Last edited by kipper on Wed Mar 29, 2006 9:36 am, edited 1 time in total.

kipper, These are very good and delicious on the BBQ. Get few of them and ready for your farewell party. ![]() Birddog114

The only similar honeyeater (afaik) to the New Holland is the White Cheeked. However the black and white streaking stops from the belly and it has a black head with a bit of white at the front of the head and a white patch about 5mm below the eye, hence White Cheeked.
