Love the first one a lot. Very evocative and the highlight on the child's eye says it all! The lighting is great as well.

The second one doesn't do it for me due to the man looking down and slightly OOF...then again that's probably what you were going after as I can see the subject of focus is the child.

If you don't mind me asking, do you do much PP to your images? If so, what do you do to create such stark, in your face images?

Definately like the first one. If you hadn't got the catch-light in the eye then it wouldn't be nearly as good. I like the framing too, cutting off the top of the head works. Nose and eyes placed on the thirds works very well too.

I wonder if it could be a little brighter, but I think that would take away from the emotion of the picture. It isn't really supposed to be bright and happy. It's bright enough around the one eye, which brings a lot of the appeal.

Not as sure about the 2nd one. I thought it was two photos put together at first. The black bar in the background down the centre acts to seperate the image. On the right side though, I love the split lighting on the childs face, and you managed to just get a little catchlight in the eye there too.

Well done.

I like both images. You have managed to extract tonnes of emotion from the expressions of your subjects. Great stuff.

To me they seem like powerful images if it was connect to a story, remind me on something I would see in Time Magazines.

Beautiful shots Juztin,

you have caught the light wonderfully :)

I also noticed that you have toned down your "signature" on the photos, looks much better now,

well done,

André

Nice work, full of emotion and you do have alteast to this forum a unique style with the way you present you work, the first for me is slightly more powerful, but I think as a series they gell really well.

I'm also curious like Wayne as to the level of PP you do on your work.

Juztin - your work always thrills me with its potent story lines. In the first pic the brilliance of composition would lend this photo to being used in a powerful ad campaign. Even the area to the left cries out for copy to enhance the evocative effect of the pic

I agree....the first shot is a real winner. The 2nd is so-so, for me.

I see POTW potentially written all over this 1st pic...and if it is so, I'm also starting to see a theme

Keep up the magnificent work !

Beautiful images Juztin. You have developed a unique style that is dark and moody. As one member commented images that would not be out of place in Time magazine. I think #1 is a very powerful and insightful image.
cheers

G'day,

I must say the first image is very, very striking. I've been looking at that for a few minutes now and it keeps my attention... The focus of light on the eye and the framing and use of open space, a very powerful and provocative image...

The second I like but would have preferred the man's face more blurred so you can still tell who they may be but the focus is stronger on the girls face...

These are both very emotional and powerful images and show you've captured the moment very well. Excellent work...

Juztin,

Yet again, 2 beautiful shots. Not everyone has the ability to capture an expression or moment with a person or people and you certainly have that knack. I love the lighting as well.

Very impressive shots

Cheers

Michael

Two great images Justin. But that first one - very powerful, very emotive, and excellent use of subject and light.

Thanks for sharing,

Love the first image, especially the catchlight in the eye. Both very emotive. They keep my attention, and tell a story.

I'm not particularly fond of the black borders you've used, as it is slightly distracting as the borders merge with the heads of your subjects.

Powerful images. Great work!
