I was down at the beach this morning with the camera and there was a storm front approaching, it didn't eventuate to much however the clouds contrasted well against the sand/water I thought. Here's a few. Minimal PP applied. Comments, and criticism welcomed:

Geoff nice pics mate. Number three is may favourite. I like that it shows plenty of the sky, beach and the built up area.

Number two in my opinion would have been better with the surf board in the corner of the image but shot in portrait rather than landscape, getting more of the sky in the image.

Pity the storm didn't come to anything, looks like it would have been spectatcular.

#3 - brilliant. Fantastic leading lines, malevolent sky and all that lovely texture from the footprints in the sand. Excellent composition.

It's the third for me too Geoff, clearly miles above the other two shots.

Nice! Much prefer the third one, the lines on the beach lead well and it all fits to my eye.

Envy you - I was on Circular Quay at 7am waiting for the sunset that didn't really work with all those clouds. But I got my bear photo without people, after waiting an hour the other day to get it at sunset and just never getting a gap with no people.

# 1 is my fav beautiful shades of blue, followed by # 3 I like the lines that lead into the next section (walkway onto the wall, sand into waves etc etc etc)

Yep the shades of blue in #1 are great. But I'm with everyone else #3 is the cracker shot. I really like the textured appearance of the sand with the footprints, the leading lines also work very well for me.

great stuff Geoff. #1 is my pick as it makes the storm look more menacing, but the leading lines and composition of the #3 shot are fantastic. I'm amazed at the lack of people on the beach as your 3rd shot shows many foot prints in the sand but it looks deserted. An uncommon sight for this beach day or night.

I guess there are a few advantages of shift work, one being that you can do things in the middle of the day when 'normal' people are working. This was taken today at around 10:30am so not too many people about, but obviously there had been some nutters doing soft sand training (ever tried it?!...ouch!) earlier in the morning.

I haven't posted a photo in a while and I endeavour to get out more and get some more landscape images etc...

#3 is a great composition and a great scene.

#1 - well I think if I had it on a larger screen it would be excellent as it has some nice layers. It just loses a bit scrolling down to look at it.

(Ohh honey any chance of a 21" monitor? slam - didn't think so.)

I had a quick look at this photo at lunch time at work - must have been just after you posted it, and I thought then that the 3rd shot was the pick. I have always been a sucker for great perspective shots.

Nicely caught. I was going to photograph the same storm this morning too, but from under it (I was on my way back into Sydney Harbour)

I like the last one best.

I admire your dedication, getting up early and naturally having the camera with you...

Particularly enjoyed the second and third, #2 for the setting up of the shot with the surfer/swimmer in the background. Tempted to crop a smidge off the bottom and the right to make the surfboard more prominent, maybe? Just rambling...

Wow, the third one just grabs my eye with the lines and away I go... Maybe drop the really bright highlights off the top of the sky though so they dont drag the eye to the top maybe?

Hmmm, wonder why I'm in cropping mood at the moment

Oh, and I can understand what you mean by visiting places when other people aren't there, working IT nerd hours means I work a combination of day-shift and night-shifts, gets confusing sometimes but it works out others too huh...

#3 is amazing, as others have said. I haven't seen the beach so deserted. It wasn't that empty last time I was there.
