Osprey eyeing me off

This osprey was drying off in a dead tree just above the beach after having swooped unsuccesfully for a fish meal.
The breeze from behind makes it look like he's gelled his hair.
Yeah I know - Osprey's don't have hair
I am keen to catch a shot of won leaving the water with a fish and with good sidelight
Keep trying I guess

Nice shot Bob. I have one who is a regular visitor, usually with a fish. Still have not got one as good as that.

I have quite a few shots of them flying including with fish in tallons but they are either not sharp enough or light isn't quite right.
I am waiting for them to reappear along the bluff at Alex - hopefully soon
I will just keep trying to get it right

wooowww excellent shot, very good detail on the back feathers. unfortunatly im my monitor the eye of the bird is not 100% sharp as the feathers. may i ask where did you focus??

I used 70-200 with 2 times converter attached and tried to focus on the head.
This is a crop of the original and I expect the sensor due to its coverage picked up on the highest contrast area

The bird's eye really grabs the viewers attention, yeah the feathers on his back look like they may have grabbed the focus, coupld of hot spots, wonder if droppign the EV a smidge in RAW conversion might help there?
The attention grabbing eye makes the image I reckon... I take it this is cropped?
You'd have to be happy with this one! Great pose and terrific eye contact...
