thirsty bellbirds

you generally dont see these guys close to the ground at all so was happy to see these
was staking out some possible kingfisher spots when I saw these guys come down for a drink:

light is quite harsh, but usually only hear these things high in the trees.

Well in a difficult situation you did well to get the shots. I've never seen them down near the ground only up in the canopy, so it is amazing that you even saw them let alone got close enough to take some photos.

Where you using flash / better beamer for these shots ?

yes craig, had the beamer, except for some lamebrained reason I forgot to set the flash zoom to manual. It didnt matter that much on these guys, but I took some test stuff of a kooka and the -2 ev fill I normally would use on kookas wasnt enough.

I took some shots of a some honey eaters (posted some too in another post) but the light was way too dim, I probably could have upped the s/s to 1/250th or so and use flash as the main light but didnt want that, instead I chose to screw em up using available light :lol:
