Took my son for a drive to Palm Beach/Pittwater to take some late afternoon/sunset shots....
Naturally, brutal honesty and CC is welcome and appreciated...
Cheers

Pittwater and Palm BeachA few weeks back I experiencing a photographic drought so I decided to break it by (ofcourse) going out and taking photos.

I really like #1 and #4 in this series.
#1 I like the angles and lighting #4 I like for the simplicy, the colour and the lines. #2 Doesn't work so good for me #3 I like, but perhaps a pano cropping a little off the top and bottom ?
Looks like you've got a great eye for picking out scenes, ozczecho.
#1 is the money shot and the simplicity of #4 is great. I thought the middle two may have benefited from taking them later in the evening as the diffused sunset hasn't really given the pics that golden glow you might have been chasing. Some of the shadows are still a little harsh. Jonas Nikon D70s, Nikkor 18-70, Sigma 70-300DG APO

Hey thanks Craig and Jonas...#1 was my fave as well. #3 tried to catch the "magical hour" light but judging by your responses, I missed it. Interesting suggestion on the pano Craig, somthing to try next time.
Cheers Mike B
Mike.
Contrary Pierre here. #2 by a mile, and #3 are the standouts for me. I just love the light you've captured in these shots. #4 - too unbalanced. The seat is so heavy it will make the image tilt down to the right after a while. ![]() Peter

Mike I actually meant I liked #3, but I just thought it might be stronger like this (please let me know and I'll take the image down).
Number one was my favourite, until I saw the pano crop of number 3 - this makes it into a great shot.

Just what do you think you're doing Dave?
Great crop Craig...I like it thanks. Hey stubbsy, thanks for that. ![]() Thanks all for the comments/critique..
No worries Mike.
![]() When cropping this one I paid close attention to the bottom LH and top RH corners, I tried to line it up so the shoreline lead into the shot and tried the same thing with the tree line. You did all the hard work with taking the shot and capturing the beautiful light, so congrats be I definitely think the pano crop is a winner, if it was my shot I'd be going on the wall for sure ![]()
G'day,
#1 The bright highlight in the sky takes me away from your subject. If you want to keep your subject that bright, I'd try exposing another version of the same RAW image (assuming you shot raw?) with a lower EV and pasting that over the top of this one, then erase all but the highlights of the lower exposure one, that might help to tone down the bright parts of the sky and get some detail back in that area... #2 I reckon that night work well as a bit of a pano by cropping some off the top and bottom. Same again for the bright spot in the sky... #3 The foregound seems a bit sparse, maybe crop this one into a bit of a pano? Again crop a smidge off the top and bottom maybe? Also, seems quite bright...? Oh, just noticed Craig's pano, the crop works well... #4 I really like the simplicity of this, maybe a bot of contrast with levels and curves? Aka Andrew
