Went to Thai New Year Festival (Songkran) at the Federation Square today. Met PiroStitch and Genji there - thanks for turning up guys. There were plenty of other photogs there, a few D70 users too. Was a nice day except for the rain at times.

These are first few from a small fashion show that took place there. The garmets were designed by Liz Davenport who was there. I used 50 mm f1.4, sometimes with flash in TTLBL, sometimes no flash at all

This one was 1/350s, f3.3, iso 250, natural light

1/500s, f4, iso 400 (should have used lower iso), Flash: TTLBL

1/250s, f4.8, iso 320 Flash: TTLBL

Any comments, suggestions will be appreciated. More to come.

Thanks
Alex

Alex, I like these shots. I didn't know you had a 50/1.4. Great lens isn't it. Those skin tones look great, not yellow like the ones in my post. The 3rd image looks a bit soft around the eyes. Are you sharpening at all? Or maybe it's your focus point. The top of her dress is sharp, but face is soft.

I noticed you changed ISO each shot. I just set and forget ISO (sometimes I forget it for too long, like at my fashion shoot indoors, I used 200 dooh).

Also, do you try to catch the model when she's walking toward you or do you wait til she's at the end of her walk and about to turn? Did you get any eye level shots? Looking forward to seeing more.

Cheers
John

cool, you got exposure knocked on the head, colours and fashionable flair is nice

50 f1.4 was the first lens i ever used on a DSLR, it's good for fashion
but shooting up from below foreshortens the model, you would have to agree they do look ill proportioned
next time it woudl have bneen good to get some distance on an elevated position and shoot with your 200 especially under overcast diffussed light conditions you would of got great shots

Good stuff Alex :) Thanks for letting us know! It was a great time, even tho it was raining at times...

Agreed that the low angle doesn't do much for the models - I came to the same conclusion with my shots as well midway through, so decided to do it a bit more arty :)

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Johnd: The 3rd shot has the model's face oof as you said. Sometimes I find even f3.3 is not enough to keep the entire body sharp. Need to go f4, may be.

Wendell and Wayne: Yes, it's obviously not a good idea to shoot models from below. I do notice the distorted proportions. Will use a different angle next time.

Wayne: Looking forward to seeing yours.
