Now this is my first time trying to add a photo,, so bare with me,,
I dont profess to be a photographer I just take snaps,, here is a shot taken at the cultural festival ,

Bindi - it seems you've posted the url for your login page. Go to your image, right click on it, bring up the properties and copy the location url. Put this between [img]and[/img] in your post and you should be in business.

Actually at photobucket it's even easier.
Underneath your photos there are 3 lines marked URL TAG and IMG
if you highlight the IMG line then copy and paste on your thread, that will work.

Thanks ,, I used the 24- 120,, and didnt do any PP , just as it came, still have not much idea on what setting I should be using for diffrent phtos,

I shot in jpeg,, I have noticed a few of my photos are soft,, this problem I have yet to solve,, I have just checked my exif , and I think maybe because I had ISO on 400,, would that be the problem,?

The D200 shouldn't be that noisy at iso400. What Jpeg mode are you shooting in? I have a feeling it may be due to the jpeg compression introducing the "noise" into the image.

Agreed it looks soft - I just checked your exif and the shot was taken at 1/500s with f6.3 at 120mm. I think if you had dropped the aperture down at least two stops and decreased the shutter speed to around 1/200s, the image may have been sharper.

Exactly what Wayne said. The 24-120 VR is soft unless you stop it down to f/8-11, so you'd have been better off shooting 1/160 @ f/11 rather than 1/500 @ f/6.3. Also, the D200 seems to have less in-camera sharpening than the D70, so will need more sharpening in PP. Composition is fine though, and it's a strong photo!

Cleared up some noise with Noise Ninja

Slight crop which I feel balances the image.

I then Ran Unsharp Mask at the following settings 133/1.0/0

Framed and here you go.

Would have loved to have a go with the original, especially if it was shot in RAW.

Took all of 60 seconds.

Mark your cropping and sharpening have worked well but I think you have over done the noise reduction as the skin is starting to look a little plasticy
I don't think the original needed any noise reduction as I don't really see any (or maybe that is just my poor eyesight blurring out the noise anyway)

Took off today to the PCAQ championships, total disaster, well some shots where, I used the cheat sheet I found here somewhere,, use the settings, and dont know if it was me or my camera, but gee my photos where noisier than I have ever seen them,,and photos taken at 3pm - 4pm where so damn dark,, feel like going back to my panasonic,, lol just kidding, This is just one of the disasters,

Hi Suzanne, I got a few in there this morning but only low stuff as today and tommorrow are Jumping Equitation only. A,B and C grade on Tuesday and Wed morning should be good though.

With regards to your shot. I had a look at teh exif data and it shos ISO 200, F113 and 1/1000s shutter speed. At that time of day that will never work and wqill be underexposed. If you shot them in RAW you can probably rescue them to a certain extent in Photoshop.

My suggestion would be in those conditions to, get as close to the jump as you can (without distracting the horses so no flash also).

I see your focal length was 52mm so that is good.

Use Aperture Priority and keep your aperture at around f11. See what shutter speed this gives you. You wont want to get much below 1/60 or will have too much motion blur.

Use the AF-C focus mode and pan with the horse and rider all the while keeping the shutter half pressed. The focus will follow and adjust very quickly and works a treat.

If you want to use a higher shutter speed then bump teh ISO up to around 800 or more. The D200 should handle that fine.

you don’t need to exclusively shoot in raw to get accurate colours. one could easily achieve this by adjusting levels in photoshop.

i took your image edited levels, minor tweeking with curves and tad sharpening. last 2 were totally optional. all-in-all it was quicker to do this than typing this message.

this image is to illustrate it can be done. im doing this on my laptop but on a separate screen one could achieve much better results.

i see you got d200 as well. i got mine only last month.
you can easily fix under exposed photos with levels in photoshop

here's quick and easy way to do what i did:
1. open the jpeg image in photoshop
2. go to image menu look for adjustments then levels
3. in rgb channel you'd may need to adjust shadows, midtones, and highlights based on your requirements
Fyi:
the first box and slider is for shadows
the second box and slider is for midtones
the third box and slideris for highlights

5. in levels dialog box you'd notice the histrogram is not even, this is the visual clue if you didn't notice the under exposed photos yet
6. i'd now get you to either do this with slider or simply put the numbers in the boxes
the first box or move slider to = 0
the second box or move slider to = 2 or 1.5
the thrid box or move slider to = 100
you can tweak these according to your requirements.
7. hint: if you staring seeing noise that means you're overdoing it
8. once you're done click ok

once you get used to it you can also play with certain channel to correct those really bad photos.

Suzanne, she just got old. Time flies, Adrienne turns 20 this year

My daughter's into showjumping...so I can either pick up poles or take photos..sometimes I have to do both.

Although I've just got the 70-200 VR I cut my teeth on the 28-200G. Anyway here's one from the 28-200G. Vicki Roycroft on a magnificent jumper (Ricardo D..I think). Taken at NSW State Championships Nowra 2005.

Gee Mark time does fly , she was only about 9 I think, wasnt she, when she got granny,, well suppose in that time, I have been divorced, daughter got married and now a grammy,, about to become grammy again in june.
