and why?

Out of these two ;
I think i prefer the first, for the brighter moon, but then again the camp in the other seems less blown (someone moved their chair exposing the briht fire to my lens during the first one)

Personally i like the first as he's not looking into the camera, so less "setup" ... but i like the ghosting more. The way these shots were done is that my mate in red pants sat dead still for 2 minutes, whilst other guys stood still but periodically moved around the shot. I was in the shot, but not really visible (using IR remote)

this is just a different crop, intead of different exposure ... my mate sat dead still for 74 seconds ... though his beer bottle did appear to move a smidge.

pair #1, I prefer the first for the reasons you mentioned, the moon is subtle (in the second I find it distracting), and the fact that the person isn't there has meant the big bright hitspot in the second...

Pair #2, I prefer the second, the amount of ghost subjects in the first makes it look setup to me, the second just seems more "natural" or candid... And I think the solid image of the person in the foreground chair strengthens the foreground of the image to me...

Pair #3, definately the pano makes the image stronger to me as there's much less room for my eyes to wander off up the trees...

Well, some cool photos. I'm going to have to agree with mudder on all 3.

The first pair - the first shot is the better one without the spot light in the camp, and the interesting beam of light coming from the fire.

The second pair - I like the second shot because the different depth of the ghost figures make it more interesting. In the first shot all the ghosts are very, well, ghosty (!).

The third pair - the tighter crop makes this a great photo.
