Does this photo work?

I keep looking at this picture and I keep wondering why I like it. Is it because it's different? Are the curve lines or bricks interesting enough? Does the shadow add something? What is your take?

Photo was taken on my recent trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was a night shot about 30 sec.

I dont mind it. works for me.

Is good if you can produce a shadow which very clearly represents what a subject is up to. have seen a few of these that really do the job.

Darken the shadow and you have a real winner. Well done. I like it.

I think it could work either way: with or without the shadow. I think the reason the shadow works is cause it diverges toward the horizon like the curves on the ground. Works for me.

I agree, the shadow almost seems to make the lines that run away part of the subject and my eyes follow the lines up, hang around the shadow then go up the lines again, works well...

The image would still work without the shadow due to the good use of leading lines, but the shadow definately makes the image more catching I reckon...
