Gidday,

I went out on Friday night to try and replicate the fantastic panoramic shot of Sheepie's. While I don't think this is close, I'm pleased with the night sky on the left and the sunset on the right.

Does the distortion of the bridge detract from the image?

Please give your comments.
I feel there is still a fair bit of PP work on this image left to do. There seems to be a fair bit of noise in the sky etc.

This cut down version isn't as sharp as the original one.

Nice merge, Warwick. What shutter speed was this? I have a shot I took from the western side of the Bridge, using a shutter speed of 30 seconds - tripod of course! That made the lights of the city brighter and the coloured reflections in the water more evident.

Cheers
Sheila

Hi Sheila,

Exif settings are:
18mm , f 5.6 , 4.0 sec , ISO 100

Mounted on a tripod, cheap Aldi one. I was a little concerned about the shutter speed being any longer as the wind was gusting or non existant and I had my motorbike tank bag holding the tripod down with 2 of the legs of the tripod jammed in the railing.

I have also tried to use the Highlight / Shadows filter in PS, but that is adding a lot of noise to the water or sky.

I took about 9 different pano pans that night. I haven't stitched all of them togther yet.

Cheers

Nice work Warwick, I don't think the distortion detracts.

NICE :)

Personally, I would crop the right hand side just to the right of the Harbour control tower - this would reduce the impact of the distortion of the bridge.

You gotta love that blue reflection eh!

Beautiful - I actually like the distortion of the bridge, kind of gives it a 3d effect - the bridge coming out of the photo towards you :)

Thanks guys,

Sheepie, half the reason I like this pano is the sunset on the right. Yes I agree that cropping at the tower would limit the distortion but might take too much of the image away.

Maybe a crop just after the ends of the clouds? There's not much after that point anyway.

Wocka - nice shot.
I really don't think the distortion in the bridge is an issue - look forward to seeing this on your wall :)

This is terrific!

Trying to offer feedback, I don't really notice the distortion in the bridge and I like the change in sky from the sunset to almost night...

Maybe crop a smidge off the top to make the bottom of the bridge on the right, intersect in the TR cnr? Will make the image ratio wider though...

The first thing I see is the blue reflection in the water, I immediately look up for the light it's reflecting from and hmmm, strange effect due to the water ripples/waves I suppose... Maybe it's just me that's strange

Maybe just lose the single, individual bright light right on the shoreline at the very edge of the left hand side...

Oh, is this a single image or a stitch?
