Hi all,

As per title, we headed up to Wentworth Falls yesterday, and went down the Valley of the Waters track. It's a spectacular time to be in the mountains, we had a great time.

I lugged all 3kg of Manfrotto tripod goodness all the way down and back up again, but was well worth it for the waterfalls. I'm sure macka will post some of her shots, but now for mine (warning, each image about 200k):

C&C very welcome, it was the first time I've shot a waterfall with a tripod, was a great learning experience

You have some very good images there ........ and No 4 I think is the one that stands out.......

Friends of mine own "Whispering Pines", the B&B at the top of Wentworth Falls, and we try to get down there whenever we can. It's a beautiful part of the world and I'm very jealous of you being able to spend some time there.

Rooboy. You've done very well with these. For me the last two are the better of the 4. #4 in particular is wonderfully simple, with just water and rocks and the foreground rock gives sufficient interest to draw the eye nicely.

It's a good track / spot.

I've abseiled down Empress Falls (#1) as part of a Canyoning adventure day. Awesome experience.

I like waterfalls.

Thanks for the replies. #4 is my favourite too. Pippin, we saw some people heading down to do some canyoning while we were there, nothing like strolling throuygh the bush and seeing people armed with wetsuits, helmets rope etc

Looks like a magic spot, spent a few days in the area ages ago and would love to go wandering around there again...

Nice angle in #1, although I'd be tempted to crop some of the top off where the highlights start to distract...

Segments of a waterfall like this can make some really interesting images, not sure on the rock in the foreground as I keep trying to see over it I think... Love the reds in the rocks in the falls...

Ahhh #3, my favorite of the bunch, some nice lines and angles, the greenery seems to take me to the falls... Hmmm, looks like a nice spot to setup a tripod on that rock in the foreground on the right, just near the ferns...

Reckon these three are crying out for someone to splash some water on the rock in the foreground though, wet the foregound rocks and it makes their color come alive... Also the water seems a smidge blue in #1 and #3, I'd try warming up the WB a smidge...

The last one is a really nice angle, just wish I could see more of the falls at the top...

I'm a sucker for a waterfall shot and enjoyed these, if these are your first waterfall shots then you've done really well as they're tricky subjects I reckon!

Last weekend I visited Wentworth Falls, I was wondering what the walk down the Valley of Waters was like ? Easy, hard ? Also what was the light like ? Would it be better in the morning or afternoon ?

Craig, I found it hard and I wasn't even carrying the tripod! I am depressingly unfit. I guess you'd call it 'medium'? Steep but not too long.

Right down the bottom it's pretty dark at whatever time. These particular falls are completely diffused by the canopy.

Nice one guys!! Looks like a lot of you are making the discovery, like me, that there's a fascinating world up there, and practically on our doorsteps. Of course for me, I am already halfway there (Quakers Hill is just past Blacktown, so it only takes us 30 minutes to get to Penrith, and another 30 to get to Wentworth Falls).

We started at Wentworth Falls, walked all the way to the bottom, then trudged along the Wentworth Pass, and eventually came up through the Valley of the Waters. Some day, we're going to go and do it in reverse - start at the Conservation Hut side.

With more preparation and supplies than last time though.. I thought we were doing a 30 minute walk to a lookout, so thought nothing of carrying a 2.8kg tripod, and my micro trekker 200 crammed full of camera gear Luckily she brought the backpack containing 2 1 litre bottles of water...

Hey, we should organise a dslrusers bushwalking trip up to the mountains at some point. I have to show people the lower wentworth falls, it is a beauty

Yes it is beautiful up there, and well worth the drive (although it does take us somewhat longer from Maroubra). A meet up there sometime is a great idea I think. We packed a picnic lunch for ourselves before we left and plenty of water and sat down the bottom near one of the falls to eat, it was lovely. We started at conservation hut and just walked down and back up again - slowly.

Great shots and looks like a very nice and relaxing location. The water seems a bit blue though
