My first images I am posting for critique.

I took my D50 for a walk yesterday and took quite a few photos. Here are some I'd like you to review and comment on ways I can improve them.

Here they are:

This is my favourite one.

Some more of the pics are at my gallery at http://www.mybugbear.net/D50-pics/

I don't think any of these are fantastic shots but they are my attempts at nature photography. I'd really like to eventually get a macro lens or even a zoom with a macro to put on my D50.

Thanks for helping me.

Alistair

Hi Alistair,

Well done on your first image post.

I find the backgrounds a bit distracting on most of these. Maybe try composing with a more distant background or use a narrower depth of field.

Thanks for the advice, I was concerened about the backgrounds as well but was thinking it would be hard to stop down the F stop because I was using a Flash for most of them. Do you know a good way. If I brought the F stop to 3.5 (Most of them were shot at 5.6) and boosted it the shutter speed to 250 would it make much difference? I hear the flash works best at 1/60 or 1/125 so would it still allow me to change the shutter and still get a good photo?
